Employment & Training

West Central Missouri Community Action Agency’s Employment & Training Unit provides services to individuals who are enrolled in the Missouri Work Assistance (MWA) or Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs. Enrollment is determined by eligibility.  Services provided include job search assistance, resume writing, interviewing techniques, Family Development planning, tuition assistance, career planning and job placement.

The Missouri Work Assistance (MWA) program provides parents who qualify with assistance in goal setting, barrier removal and job preparation. MWA works with individuals receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy families (TANF) who have been referred by the Division of Family Services. MWA assists participants in gaining work experience, work readiness skills, and education to support participation in work activities and assists participants in overcoming barriers to reach self-reliance.

What is considered a Work Activity?

  • Work Placement
  • Job Search
  • Classroom Training
  • Online Classes
  • Job Readiness Preparation

Work Placement Program:

The Work Placement Program affords a referred individual the opportunity to gain skills through on-the-job training in a professional environment. West Central places individuals who are in need of job skills with employers who are willing to provide supervision and training. Work placement can be voluntary and in some cases, the participant can be paid a wage by our agency. In each case, West Central is responsible for Worker’s Compensation Insurance. The hope is always that these positions lead to full time employment with the company or agency a participant is placed with, however, a typical training contract consists of completing 240 hours

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program ensures access for all adults, dislocated workers and youth, of every skill level, the opportunity to pursue the skills, training, and education they need to obtain employment that will lead to financial stability and economic security for themselves and their families.  West Central provides WIOA services for Cass County residents.
