Slow Cooker Naked Philly Cheesesteak

My husband and I met five years ago today over a Philly cheesesteak.

Now this was back  in my pre-gluten free days, and I had just ordered lunch from the grill in our college student center. I noticed Mr. Budget Friendly doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, and I was like, “Hey, he’s cute and he likes to do the crossword like I do!” and apparently he was like, “Hey, she’s cute and she orders Philly cheesesteaks – impressive!” And the rest is history.

Grabbing a Philly cheesesteak is not quite so easy for me anymore, but this slow cooker version is almost as convenient!

I made a few changes to the original recipe – I used beef stew meat instead of tri-tip steak, and I substituted white grape juice for white wine because I got a great deal on a bottle (90 cents!). I think I might be a little braver next time and add some more seasonings, and it would be interesting to try out other cuts of beef in this one too. This recipe is super versatile. Just add a slice of your favorite cheese and enjoy! The first time Mr. Budget Friendly and I ate this, I chose to have it with some rice and he turned it into a sandwich. Later in the week I had leftovers on from Gluten Free on a Shoestring, and oh my, were those delicious. You could also eat it plain or serve it over a baked potato.
