Mission Committee March 2016 COMMUNITY MEAL: Thank you to all who helped with the Feb 24th meal, 74 meals were served, please continue to welcome guests for future meals, or let us know if you have suggestions for this activity. Our March Meal date is the 23rd, our April date is April 27th ICHC: What is One Great Hour of Sharing®? One Great Hour of Sharing, as part of Our Churches Wider Mission, is the special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that carries God’s message of love and hope to people in crisis. The UCC works with international partners to provide sources of clean water, food, education and health care, small business micro-credit, advocacy and resettlement for refugees and displaced persons, and emergency relief and rehabilitation. OGHS also supports domestic and international ministries for disaster preparedness and response. The Iowa County group is attempting to build on their success, looking to have a second apartment available. They have alsolaunched a challenge to congregations to support them at $100/month if possible. LENTEN OFFERING: A loose offering was started with Lent on February 14th, being collected by the children attending service (Thank You!), to be continued each Sunday through Lent. The proceeds of the collection will be donated to the Iowa County Food Pantry. Thank you to everyone who is taking part, your change is Welcome, however, the children are happy to collect cash or checks as well. OGHS, One Great Hour of Sharing: We will be receiving our first of the UCC Special offerings, One Great Hour of Sharing on March 13th. People sometimes ask: What is One Great Hour of Sharing®? FOOD BOXES: EASTER we would like to plan to pack some food boxes for the Easter Holiday. Please consider bringing nonperishable food items and personal care/household items to our collection basket located in the chapel. If you would like to help out with the boxes, or delivering, Please contact Dick J FRB/ FOODS RESOURCE BANK: Our 2015 projects have been completed by our host sites, Alex Hendrick and Mary Dunn, we thank them for being the ‘hands on’ daily individuals who make our project happen. We will plan to have a meeting following Worship on March 13th to discuss our past year, and plans for 2016. We welcome all interested to attend to learn more. We received a Facebook message from Anahit Gasparyan, who had visited with us afew years ago from Armenia. She told us from our support, that two family’s children had been fed and were able to go to school this last year. They thanked us for our support and send our church their thanks and prayers
