Birchwood Camp is accepting applications for two part time positions on our food service team: a Lead Cook and an Assistant Cook. Hours range from 10-40 hours per week depending on the camp’s summer schedule. Flexibility and willingness to work a varied schedule, including many weekends, is a must.
The Lead and Assistant Cooks are responsible for food preparation, serving, storage and clean up, under the supervision of Birchwood Camp’s Food Service Manager. The Lead Cook serves as a shift leader when the Food Service Manager is off duty. All cooks must be able to follow recipes provided by the Food Service Manager and prepare & deliver meals in a timely manner. Cooks are not responsible for shopping or menu planning. During the summer months, Birchwood Camp provides food service for groups ranging in size from 40-110 people almost daily. In the off-season the camp provides food service to schools & guest groups on weekends and occasionally during the week.
Desired Qualifications: The successful candidate will have experience working in food service, strong time management skills, and will be serve-safe certified (desired but not required). Applicants to the Lead Cook position should have strong supervisory skills.
Requirements: A background check is required for employment. Candidate must be able to work with children, youth, and adults in a camp setting. Candidate must hold or obtain a valid Alaska Food Workers Card, and a TB test required upon hiring.
Compensation: $11-$14/ hour DOE.
