Food Prep Basics

Meal Planning and Food Prep 101:

  • Start planning your menu and grocery list the week before.
  • Before you go grocery shopping clean out the fridge and adjust your grocery list accordingly.
  • Stick to your list when at the grocery store.
  • Before you start make sure that you have time – I try to stick to 3 hours or less.
  • Start with a clean kitchen. When your kitchen is cleaned and organized you can get a clearer vision of where everything is and what you want to do first.  Keep in mind if you meal prep on Sunday this can be done Saturday night.  I always load and run the dishwasher, that way if you need a knife or measuring cup it is already cleaned.  That way you have more time for food prepping.
  • Have your ingredients and supplied ready. Lay out all your ingredients, try to group everything by recipe.  Get all your Tupperware ready – nothing is more annoying than searching 15 minutes for a lid.
  • Have consistent weekly food preps. Don’t feel like you have to prep a new recipe every week.  Keep is simple: Mason jar salads, brown rice, chicken, and bag almonds or sunflower seeds.
  • You do not have to go crazy! I like the put an alarm on my phone for an hour.  Sometimes I go a little over but that way I am not in the kitchen for 5 hours on Sunday missing out on family time.

This week for the day I have:

7 am – 2 eggs and cut up tomato

9 am – apple, almonds and sunflower seeds

11 am – carrots and celery with peanut butter

12 pm – chicken, brown rice and green beans

2pm – cucumbers and onion

4pm – banana

6 pm – dinner

I eat the same thing every day.  It makes grocery shopping and meal prepping so much easier.  I hope this helped you guys for your food prepping adventures.
