I learn from many resources and one way to learn is from other’s mistakes. This saves a lot of time and pain if we stay alert to our surroundings. I heard a man teaching a survival course once say, “Utilize, don’t analyze!”. That stuck with me and enhanced my ability to learn forever. Am I not perfect with this, but I do my best each day to learn and use what I see, free from too much critical thinking.
My head is as solid as the next person’s sometimes, and not much gets in, but I do my best to keep my eyes and ears open to suggestion. With that in mind, I was watching a show on survival and saw that the magnesium fire starter they had was falling apart and they were losing some of it to the dirt around them. An idea popped into my head and here it is…
I hate throwing away good containers to the recycle bin when I can recycle them myself. I keep a lot of them in my preps, so I can store stuff and share in the future if needed. This way I can portion people I help that may not understand the concept of conserving your food supply for length of survival. I save the spice containers for putting my own Paprika and herb mixes of different heat levels. Yes, Paprika is peppers! The ones in the stores are made from sweet peppers, otherwise they are called rubs.
I thought that if I put my magnesium block in one of these spice containers, it would help to keep it dry after I removed it from the Mylar bag to use, and I could just break it up and then sprinkle some out when I needed it. I keep one of these in all my BOBs.
