c history and appreciation.  He has also served as Assistant Headmaster, Dormitory Director, Development Officer, founder and advisor of Entropy (Lee Academy’s literary and arts publication) and JV and assistant varsity basketball coach.  For sixteen years, he was co-owner of the Springfield Fairgrounds, rebuilding and hosting one of the oldest agricultural fairs in Maine.  He enjoys basketball, traveling, kayaking, listening to music, snowshoeing, and splitting firewood.  He is a “part-time poet” and published author, and was moderator of theSpringfield Congregational Church – UCC for 27 years.  Mr. Ritchie and his wife have a son, Aaron ’92, who is a Registered Nurse-Paramedic and Director of Medical Services at Lee Academy.  Aaron and his wife Theresa have four boys: Matty, Aidan, Elijah and Finnegan.  The Ritchies’ daughter Aarika ’08 is a graduate of Colby College and Emerson College and she works in Boston.  Currently, Mr. Ritchie is Dean of Academics, and is responsible for overseeing the academic program, certification and re-accreditation activities, and for providing supervision and support to the teaching staff.  He also works on various other projects, both for Lee Academy US and its overseas affiliate schools.

Michael Hutchins, International Dean

Mr. Hutchins is beginning his 40th year in education. He has a degree in Life Sciences from the University of Maine. He graduated in 1976 and began his teaching career in Brewer, Maine, as a middle school Science Teacher. He spent five years in Brewer before moving to Orono High School in Orono, Maine, for three years and then spent six years as a college football coach before returning to the classroom at Lewiston High School in 1990. He spent twenty-three years at Lewiston, serving as a biology teacher and science department head as well as an Assistant Principal. The last ten years he was the director of curriculum, instruction and assessment while working in Lewiston. He then moved on to be the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Dirigo High School in Dixfield, Maine. In 2015 he began his work at Lee Academy as the International Dean. He is currently the Headmaster and director of curriculum, instruction and assessment at Lee Academies International School of Shanghai,China.

Holly is Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at LA, after serving for many years as a mathematics teacher and math team coach at Mattanawcook Academy. With husband Andrew, she has a daughter, Delaney, who is a 7th grader. Holly holds a BS in Secondary Education from the University of Maine, and a Master’s in Education from the University of New England. In addition to coordinating discipline and attendance, she serves as math team coach and teaches two mathematics courses. Holly is a Registered Maine Guide and she enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time outside with family and friends.

Scott Murchison, Director of Food Services

Mr. Murchison has been the Director of Food Services at LA since 2013. Prior to that time, he worked extensively in the foods industry, beginning with many years in places along the east coast. He considers himself fortunate to have been mentored by several highly skilled chefs, particularly in the Wilmington, NC region where his own cooking and management styles evolved. He has also had the unique experience of catering for the motion picture industry, both on location and in studios, in the southern United States. After returning to the Portland, ME area several years ago, he and his wife, April, moved north to Lee, where he has roots; Mr. Murchison’s mother and father live in Lee and his mum, Janet, is a member of the LA Class of ‘63.  While living in Lee, he was the chef at The Chocolate Grill, a popular Bangor-area restaurant. He then worked for several years, throughout eastern Maine, in outside sales and marketing for Sysco Foods Corporation. At Lee Academy, Mr. Murchisonoversees a staff of nine, which often includes student interns. He plans, orders, and prepares/coordinates all meals for both the day and boarding school, and he is responsible for nutrition, campus catering, and overall management of the food services program.
